FC Shawn Pahnke, 25, of Shelbyville, Indiana. was serving in 1st Platoon, C Company, 1-37 AR when he was killed in action on 16 June 2003 in Baghdad, Iraq. Shawn was in a two-vehicle convoy seeking a former Iraqi missile compound when a sniper’s bullet struck him. Pahnke grew up wanting to be a Soldier like both his father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, son, parents and two older brothers. Shawn rests in the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois and the post office in his hometown now bears his name.
