His platoon from the 66th MPs and the Polish soldiers operating with them were task organized with 1-37 AR for the Karbala operation. They had recently been warned about the potential for a car bomb attack, so when a dump truck came barreling into the intersection, they opened fire from all sides. The truck crashed into Buryj's truck before coming to a stop. It was not a truck bomb, but Jesse was down. A subsequent investigation found that he been struck by friendly fire most likely from the Poles. Buryj is survived by his wife, Amber and his parents. Peggy and Steve.
