Killed in Action: 17 April 2004 (aged 20) in Diwaniyah, Iraq
Burial: Evergreen Cemetery in Stanton, Texas.
PFC Clayton W. Henson, A/1/2 ACR, On this day in 2004, Clay was killed in an ambush in Diwaniyah, Iraq while fighting alongside Soldiers from 2-37 AR. He died at age 20 the day after his tour in Iraq was supposed to end. As they were preparing to deploy back to Fort Polk, Henson’s unit was extended 90 days to help put down the Sadr Militia uprising.
A native of Big Spring, Texas, Clay enlisted as 11C mortarman after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, choosing to defer college and serve his nation in its time of need. Following his death, his parents established a memorial scholarship fund in Henson’s name to help others get the college education he missed out on.
