SGT Michael Woodliff, Mortar Platoon 1-37 AR, was killed in an IED attack on his truck in Baghdad, Iraq on 2 March 2004. The son of a Soldier, Woodliff knew he wanted to serve from a very early age. As a high school wrestler in Florida, he hardened and strengthened his body for the rigors of combat. He even tricked his parents into signing the consent form so he could enlist under the delayed entry program before his senior year of high school. Today, Woody lies in repose at Arlington National Cemetery. He was survived by his parents, three brothers and the fiancé he never got to marry.
