PFC Shawn Pahnke, 25, of Shelbyville, Indiana. was serving in 1st Platoon, C Company, 1-37 AR when he was killed in action on 16 June 2003 in Baghdad, Iraq. Shawn was in a two-vehicle convoy seeking a former Iraqi missile compound when a sniper’s bullet struck him. Pahnke grew up wanting to be a Soldier like both his father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, son, parents and two older brothers. The post office in his hometown now bears his name.
