C Company,  1-37 Armor

Born:  21 Jun 1981 in California

Died of Wounds: 14 May 2004 (aged 22) in Baghdad, Iraq

GT Brud Cronkrite, 22, of Spring Valley, CA, died on 14 May 2004 from injuries he sustained in Karbala when a rocket-propelled grenade exploded near him during a security patrol. Cronkite’s given name, Brud, is British slang for “brother.” He enlisted in 2001 hoping to earn his sergeant stripes, in part to emulate his maternal grandfather, a career Marine who retired as a major. Cronkite was a gunner in Cobra Company, 1-37 AR, at the time of his death.
