SGT Edward W. Shaffer

B Company, 1-36 Infantry part of Task Force 1-37 Armor

Born: 31 Aug 1983

Died of Wounds: 27 Dec 2006 (aged 23) in San Antonio, Texas

Buried: Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania

SGT Edward Shaffer of B/1-36 IN died of wounds while undergoing treatment at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio on 27 December 2006.  On 13 November 2006, Eddie was burned over more than 90% of his body when his Bradley Fighting Vehicle struck an IED near Combat Outpost Iron in Ramadi, Iraq. He suffered tremendously as the best care available tried to heal his ravaged body. We are all diminished by the loss of this young man from south central Pennsylvania. Eddie chose to be a Soldier, chose the Infantry, and fought with great skill to make our world a better place. His family will never have a Christmas untouched by the pain of his loss and we can never repay the sacrifice he made on our behalf.
