Update on the RFCT Reunion

The latest information about the June 2011 Ready First Combat Team Reunion in El Paso, Texas,

The event will be held from the 23rd to the 26th of June, 2011 at the Wyndham El Paso Airport, with the 23rd reserved as an arrival day and the 26th as a departure day.
We have blocked rooms at the hotel with a special group rate of $89 a night. To take advantage of this rate, reserve your room before 9 June 2011 and just mention the group name “Ready First Brigade Reunion”.

Why El Paso? Because the Ready First is now at Ft. Bliss, along with lots of memorabilia. We hope for a nice turnout,and based on this event, we will consider other options for future reunions (Vegas, Germany, etc.).
If you have any friends whose Soldiers were in Tal Afar/Ramadi/Hit in 2006-2007 with the Ready First Combat Team headquartered in Friedberg, Germany, please share the RFCT Reunion page with them! We also want to share with Spouses & parents who lost a Soldier while with the Ready First. And we know that some kids who were together at Giessen Middle/High School might like to come, too. So please tell those families, as well.
And we could never forget the Wounded Warriors from throughout the BCT! This includes those who retired, of course! So, please share with them, as well. Retired of any kind, but we really want to reach our Wounded Warriors.
Some more details will follow, i.e. there will be a registration fee of $30.00 as we will need to cover some additional costs. We want to have a trip out to Ft. Bliss from the hotel for a tour of the new Ready First headquarters, barracks & motor pools. We hope to have a short memorial rededication ceremony out there for our RFCT Fallen Heroes. And we also will also have some time to shop/explore the soon-to-be opened Lifestyle Center, the first of its kind on any Department of Defense installation. It’s a PX “on steroids”, but there’s much more to it.
On Saturday, we will have an organizational day type event out at East Ft. Bliss. The day will begin with a 5k run for those interested and will include opportunities for softball, soccer, basketball, and a water park option. There is also a paintball field that costs $20 per person for a 2 hour minimum and a rock climbing wall for $7.50 per person.
A case of paintballs costs $50. Those are additional costs that participants must pay themselves. We hope to have the Veterans Administration Mobile Vet Center there with information for Combat Vets and their families, as well as the National Military Family Association and the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) folks to share additional information for all of us on what their organizations do for the Military and their families.
Then a banquet that evening, a la a Brigade or Battalion Ball, will include a punch bowl, or “grog” ceremony, along with posting of the colors, a guest speaker (TBA), and dancing afterwards! So, prices for the banquet and the buses combined, have been added up and broken down per attendee.
We are announcing the Reunion now so everyone has plenty of time to save up for airfare, hotel and banquet/tour costs!

We are really looking forward to seeing many of you and allowing us all an opportunity to reconnect. We will decide over the course of the 2011 weekend if we want to continue with the reunion every couple of years and what else we want to do or become.
We want to disseminate far and wide.
